Cluck, Cluck, Shop!

Last week I saw these fabric grocery bags on Svetlana’s blog Sotak Handmade and thought I need to make some for my girls.

I’m not the best at following patterns, but I thought these  directions were clearly written and easy to follow even for someone like me.   I decided to deviate from them a little by topstitching the handles with contrasting thread.

And at my daughter’s suggestion, I added a little pocket inside for money.  The idea is we will use these bags at the farmer’s market so the kids can pick their own produce with their own money!

My mom has chickens so I thought she’d get a kick out of this fabric.  This prototype is going to her.

I didn’t spent any time with my sewing machine the past two weeks.  A stomach bug raged through the family, knocking out one person after another, and then we spent a few gorgeous days at the beach, so I just didn’t have any time to sit down to my machine.  It felt so good to sew something last night!

Now that I have practiced the pattern, I plan to make four more for us girls.  Those should go a lot more quickly.  This version of the bag is the “medium” size which finishes approximately 13” x 12” x 5”.  The size is just perfect.

Our son's family had that bug too. It was terrible! Glad everyone is feeling better there.
