Giveaway Day!

Would you like to win your own copy of the book “Pretty in Patchwork Holidays” and a pack of 16 fat quarters?

1-005

The book is by John Adams, aka Quilt Dad, and it contains 30+ different holiday projects by talented quilters such as Monica Solario-Snow.  This cute pillow caught my eye immediately.

1-012

The fat quarter pack is an assortment of 16 fat quarters from Connecting Threads called “Technicolor Christmas.”

1-008

This is the pillow I made from the book with the same fat quarters and a few fabrics from my stash.  I will do a post about making it later this week so we can get to the GIVEAWAY!

1-001

My friend Kelie and I have organized a new online quilting bee called Make It Modern.  This is a fast-paced bee that lasts 6 months instead of 12 and each bee member makes 2 blocks per month.  The theme is modern!  Modern fabrics, colors, and designs.  And it involves a prize every month and multiple prizes at the end of the bee.  We have sponsors already lined up! If this bee is something that you think you might be interested in, check out the Flickr page and fill out a Google form here.   The bee and alternate spots have been filled!

Ok, now to the really important part!  Here’s how you can enter to win the book and fat quarters.  Open to US residents only.

1.  Leave a comment  telling me if you’ve ever participated in an online bee and, if have a spare moment, any advice for making it fun and a great experience.

2.  Get an extra entry for being a follower, new or old.  Just leave a comment telling me you signed up with Google Friend Connect on the right hand side of my blog.

And check out all the other great giveaways on the Sew Mama Sew blog.

Good luck, friends!

  1. I have never done a bee so I'm no help. Sorry! Both of your giveaway items are things I've got on my wish list so I would love to win! Thanks for the chance.

  2. I am participating in a stash bee. It has been a lot of fun, but for some reason has also had its fair share of hiccups. I think strict rules set out a head of time makes bees run smoother.

  4. I have been a part of a couple of bees. They were both fun! Communication is key. Also, some kind of theme helps.

  5. I have not participated in a bee yet. At first, I just wasn't confident enough and now I worry about meeting the schedule commitments. It looks like so much fun, though!

  6. I have never done a bee, but have always wanted to. I'll check yours out!

  8. I have never been a part of a bee, but have joined in many QALs. The pillow is fabulous.

  9. Jamie, this is such a generous giveaway, and your ho ho ho pillow looks gorgeous!!!

  10. I love these bright cheerful fabrics! I'm in the Stash Bee, but I only started a couple of months ago. I really enjoy seeing all the different block that people request and practicing new and different techniques. I would say what makes it fun for me is "meeting" all the other people and learning from them.

  11. I've never participated in a bee (to worried I wouldn't stack up).
This is an amazing giveaway, thank you for the chance :)

  12. I did participate in the Swoon along.. sadly I didn't finish in a timely fashion, life got in the way.
I think just being involved and giving fun insight, would be helpful for newcomers

    ReplyDelete
  13. I recently participated in my first Blog Hop, where we all made the same pattern but they turned out SO differently. It was a great learning experience, a wonderful motivator and a LOT of fun. I really recommend it, even to beginners like me!

  14. Yes, I've participated in two -- one of them is Beejeebers! It was tons of fun!

  15. Thank you for such a wonderful giveaway. Your pillow is super cute!! :o) I look forward to learning how to make one. :o)

  16. I've never entered a bee before, but would like to when I get a bit more practiced. Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have never entered a bee, mostly because I am not that computer savy. I would love to when I get better with this thing.

  18. I have never participated but would love to!

  20. I've actually never done a bee before, either, but I'd love to know how they work. I see a lot of people talking about them, and I would be interested in participating in one if I knew how it went!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm a new follower, and hopefully I'll learn more about the bee process!

    ReplyDelete
  22. So far I haven't entered any online (or offline) bees. I think it would be a lot of fun but I tend to be more of a planner than a doer. Thank you for the giveaway, season's greetings to you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have done online bees before and have always ended up disappointed because of the lack of sewing skills of some participants. I've had better luck when its been a hand picked group so that everybody's sewing level is relatively the same.

Sorry if I'm coming off as a Debbie Downer. I really do enjoy swapping and wish I had the time to join a bee but I'm getting ready to move from Texas to Florida in March.

  24. Never tried an online quilting bee, I know my limitations and aversion to deadlines in my personal life. Thanks

  25. I've never participated in an online quilting bee...as I tend to stumble across them as they are coming to an end...They sound fun though!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I've never done an online bee-they look super fun, but I am hesitant to enter because I am very new to quilting (I've only made one so far!) and know that more experienced quilters might be disappointed/frustrated with the quality of my blocks. So I guess my tip would be to make the skill/quality expectation very clear to people thinking about participating!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've never been in an online quilting bee but it looks like it could be fun once I get way way more experience with quilting!

  30. What a beautiful pillow! I'd love to make one myself. I have done a few things online but never a bee. 2012 was a hectic year for me and I'm hoping the coming new year brings a calmer year.

Thank you for an awesome and generous giveaway and a chance to win.

  33. Wonderful giveaway - thanks! I've never done an online bee because I get too picky about my blocks measuring up.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No, I've never done a bee! And your work in fabulous!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I've been in the 4x5 and 3x6 bees. Best advice is to be really specific in your colors/preferences.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've never been in a bee, online or otherwise, so I'm no help! I've only tackled mini quilts so far and about to start a doll quilt. I think a bee would be great fun.

    ReplyDelete
  37. What an incredible giveaway!!!

I have never tried a bee...maybe in the near future.

Thanks for a chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Also a new follower....this giveaway is fantastic!

    Thanks!

  39. I participate in several bees and love it! I haven't had a bad experience yet, but I wouldn't want to be disappointed in the future. Perhaps making sure everyone can post on time or else has to find their own replacement?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm a new follower too. Can't wait to see what lovelies you create in the future!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I've done the Flickr 3x6 Mini Bee and it was fun. I think having strict rules/guidelines set out beforehand make it better because then everyone knows what to expect and it runs smoother.

    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I tried to do a quilt along once, but couldn't keep up.

My advice to people signing up would be to doublecheck that the project is at your current ability level.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I've never done an online bee.. I don't even know how that would work?!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I've never done a bee. I'm terrified of life getting in the way and inadvertently flaking on someone. :( I agree with those above who say clearly set out rules will make life a lot easier for everyone. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I participated in a bee once, it was way too hard for me and I felt bad not being as awesome as everyone else participating. My advice is to make it as easy as you can!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I've never participated in an online bee although, I'd like to someday. Your modern bee sounds like fun but 2 a month is more than I can handle. cute giveaway...I'd love to make that pillow.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have done several sew-alongs, but never a bee! I wish I had the spare time, yours sounds wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm in one of the do. Good Stitches circles. I think starting the conversation thread a week before the month starts is really helpful!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am in several. I think the key to keeping people happy is setting expectations and standards and truly dealing with it when those standards and expectations are not met. Also, keep the conversation going. It is always fun to get to know those you are sewing with!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I have never participated in an online bee, but I would like to someday!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I've never done a bee before. I would be too nervous making things that I had to give to people who don't automatically love me because we are related or something. :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have never done a bee, and actually don't understand how it works.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I've been in a lot of bees. It's annoying when folks vanish and don't send back fabric. So, I'd advise never sending out of print stash.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have never participated in an online bee. I've thought about it, but never can tell for sure if I will be able to meet the deadlines. I don't want to be the one who doesn't finish on time!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I have never participated in a bee. I did an online quilt along and a round robin though.
    It was really fun.
    lisa(at)vetteklisa(dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have signed up for a bunch of bees and am a leader in a few. Best advise is to not over do it or you'll end up resenting the commitments. Also, try to get in a bee with established swappers or a long standing bee, they are more likely to last it out instead of flaking after they get their blocks.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I've never participated in a Bee on or offline.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I've never done a bee, I've wanted too but am nervous

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have never done an on-lin bee, but do a number of swaps.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I am doing an online bee, and the people make it great. Also a very diplomatic organizer, who has clear guidelines and a love of quilting.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I haven't ever participated in a bee, but I have done several swaps!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I haven't done any bees, just getting into flickr and that seems to be how most of them are organized. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I did Nubees a monthly swap. It is a great way to start getting into bees because you only have to commit on a monthly basis. Your 6mo scheme seems like the next logical step :)

    ReplyDelete
  71. I've never done a bee, sorry! But these fabrics are beautiful. jamesandpennym(at)gmail(dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  72. I haven't done an online bee, except for participating in swaps on quilting email lists, which has been alot of fun! (I love this fabric line from Connecting Threads!)

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm participating in my first ever bee right now. What is keeping it fun for me is the the amount of freedom we have in designing each other's blocks. We can combine the fabrics with a theme(like circles) in mind but have some creative freedom on what we put together. Too many rules would just bog it down.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I am also a follower. :) Thanks for a great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I've never been in an online bee. I kind of wish I could but I'm afraid my skills will be lacking and I'm not sure where you can find ones to sign up for. Thanks for the chance to win the book and fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  76. never been in a bee- so I don't have advice :) It'd be cool!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I've been in a couple online bees. My advice is to do your blocks when they come in the mail ... don't procrastinate - others in your bee will appreciate it!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I haven't done an online bee yet, but it is definitely on the list! Sorry I don't have any advice.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I have not participated in a bee. I'm too intimidated. I should make that a goal for 2013.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I haven't before, but it could be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yes, I just participated in my first QAL this fall. I enjoyed it very much but it was a quick 6 weeks so I didn't finish in time. I feel so much better with 6 months!! Lots of examples of what you are doing each month for inspiration is what would help me A LOT!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I am already a follower of your blog and enjoy it very much.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I've run a bee for a few years now (Bee Vintage on flickr) My best advise is to get everyone's phone #s. People will flake and be late. Having a phone # to call is the easiest way to say "hey, are you still with us?" instead of leaving many email or flickr messages. Good luck with the bee!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I've participated in 3 bees - do Good Stitches for charity quilts, We Bee Modern Too hosted by CityStitches, and the 3x6 Bee. My favorites are do Good Stitches and We Bee Modern Too. I like that they are smaller bees and you're with the same people throughout so you get to know one another. Also people are more accountable. I think the leads of the group can make it fun by encouraging participation through the flickr group and getting to know each other "outside" the bee (follow flickr streams and blogs).

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm a follower through Google Reader.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I've never done an online bee. Heck, I've never done a bee period. I should get out more.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I have never done a bee, but I am going to do my first in 2013... I think.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Wow-generous giveaway! Yes, I've participated in bees and I think the number one thing that makes them successful is having constant communication among the members-so important! People need to feel connected to each other and not like they are making something for someone they don't know!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I've never done a bee. I'm not actually sure what all it entails!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I have not been in any quilting bees.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I've been in bees and swaps. sometimes I think the group just gets lucky and clicks. Lots of chatty types all in one place. I think the turn around needs to not drag on or people forget or loose interest.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I have never been in a bee but it does sound fun.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I've never participated in an online bee, but definitely would love to! These fabrics are so lovely :) Thanks so much for participating in Giveaway Day!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I've done an online quilt along but not an online Bee. If a Bee is where you trade your blocks with someone else's blocks, I think the reason I've never participated is I'm not confident in my skills enough to want to trade!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Nope, never done a bee. Maybe someday when my kids are grown!
    steeplechaser29 at yahoo

    ReplyDelete
  99. I've been participating in a few different type of bees. One of the most important things is keeping communication going and the commitment. I've participated in bees where someone will sign up and never make the block and never communicate they've dropped out. Or they'll have their month and then drop out when they get their blocks.
They are a lot of fun when there are good members participating.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I have done a few different formats of bees, my favorite has been do.Good stitches. It just is a good fit for me!

    Awesome giveaway! I'm at: ambernoel226 at gmail.com

Thanks for the giveaway and please enter mine.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Thanks for the chance at this generous giveaway! I participate in do.Good.Stitches and love it! I think a good rule of thumb for making it work well is to not have block styles that are too difficult for the participants.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I have not participated in any bees so far. My advice is be flexible, within reason.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I have participated in a few bees - a paper piecing bee, and 3 block bees. I don't think you need to do anything to make it fun - they are fun already! Maybe, not too many rules?

    ReplyDelete
  112. I've never participated in an online bee...but they sound like fun.

  144. I have been in two...with wonderful Bee Mamas. =) I think that not making them too large and getting quality people is helpful. You probably want everyone on a similar skill set...I think that's important. I think it helps to not have to ship international, but some people don't mind either way.

    Thank you.

  150. Cute pillow, and great fabrics! And I've never been in an online bee, so I'm little help. I have done a round robin, and my biggest peeve was people waiting to send their batch until way after the deadline. Don't know if that helps.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  154. I think that for a bee to be successful, you need to have really clear guidelines and consequences if people fail to follow through with their assignments. I know life happens, so you allow one late mailing. Whatever rules you decide on, be firm-because then others feel safe to invest the time and money to make it successful!

    ReplyDelete
  155. I've participated in a few swaps by not a bee yet. I've been thinking about it, but I know that you have to stick to your commitment and my life is so stinking busy!
