Workin’ on the chain gang…

That song just popped into my head when I was taking photos of the most recent blocks I finished for my Tone It Down quilt.

Last time I took photos to share on my blog, I had 8 blocks completed.  Now there are 12!  I’m not so sure I can live with the blocks that are more o than x.  Please tell me it’s okay.  I am going to cut the rest of the fabric for the last 8 blocks today.  I was thinking of trying to make the rest kind of like the 4th one from the left on the bottom row.  Both x and o?

The star fabric is from one of Juliana Horner’s collections at Joann’s.

So is this gray and black check.  Both were perfect for a manly quilt.

Not a lot of sewing has been going on here.  It has been incredibly busy but hopefully will settle down in about a month.

Linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts and Fort Worth Fabric Studio on Friday.

Tone It Down--“Up”date

The 3 blocks I had finished two weeks ago has grown to 8 total.  Making them is faster now, but it still takes me about 2 hours from start to finish to make each one.

Picking the fabric for each block has been a fun process.  My favorite block is the orange and blue.

The quilt will have 20 blocks all total, so I’m 40% done (hope my math is right).  That does not include the sashing, which I just noticed a few days ago has some piecing to it!

And here’s some cute fabric I picked up online last week.  The one on the left is by Creative Thursday and called The Red Thread.  The fabric on the right is by Henley Studio for Andover.  I love the different patchwork fabric elephants on it.

I’ll just be stashing these away to use for something, someday.

Have a great week!

Blowin’ in the Breeze

I tried to get a photograph of the three blocks I’ve finished so far for my Tone It Down quilt, but the weather has been quite uncooperative the past few days.  Rain, snow, & now strong winds are not  making it easy to take a photo!

Somehow I missed the Quilt Along associated with this quilt.  I’m not sure how it worked, because the pattern was in a February edition of a quilting magazine and from what I see online, the QAL was last year in November or December.  No matter, I’m enjoying making these blocks one-by-one at my pace.  This quilt does not need to be finished until July, so there’s no hurry.

Despite the terrible weather continuing well into the end of March, the spring cleaning bug has bitten me and I painted another room yesterday.   This bedroom is now a home office.  A light shade of blue from the mistints at Lowe’s transformed the walls.  We still need to hang the artwork and move some shelves in, but I’m hoping to keep this room clean and uncluttered.  Fingers crossed!  Now I’m ready to start painting my daughter’s room finally.

Hope you are having a wonderful (and spring-like) day!

A New Project

I just finished up my Pantone Project on Sunday but the weather has not cooperated with taking photos.  Can you believe we got 6 inches of snow on Sunday night?  Here’s a photo of our backyard today.  The snow is melting, but it’ll be another day or two till it’s all gone.

I didn’t have a plan for what I wanted to work on next.  I have a lot of WIPs in various stages of quilting and binding, but nothing lined up to piece, which is what I really love.  So I started a new quilt that will take quite a while to get into a top.

The quilt is going to be for my brother-in-law, hopefully for his birthday this summer.

These are the fabrics I’m starting with.  The background will be all low volume scraps.  I’ve been wanting to get my scraps better organized, so this is taking a dent out of all the pieces left over from my penny patch.  Yay!

The little squares are 1.5” which are the smallest pieces of fabric I’ve ever worked with.

What are you up to lately?
