Bees and Bluegill

Just finished up my Stash Bee blocks for Sara for June.

Her idea is so original—the blocks will be used to make a wedding quilt (she is getting married) that guests can sign at the reception.  What a wonderful idea!!!

Over the past few days we have spent quite a bit of time outdoors.  The weather has been a little cooler than normal in summertime, so we’ve been out fishing and crabbing.

I’ve also been trying to do some sewing at night, but it’s difficult now that the kids stay up later on their summertime schedule and seem to still get up just as early.  I joined the sliced apples QAL and have all my blocks ready to join together.  This is the color scheme I picked.

I’m doing pink and brown.  A friend is expecting a baby (the gender is a surprise) so I want to have two quilts on hand ready to gift.

  1. You have still been so busy! The dress you made is adorable.
I´d would probably make a gender neutral quilt because there is no way that I finish two baby quilts in time :-)

I think your hot weather came to our place. It´s 97°F here (crazy, two weeks ago we still had snow on the mountains) and with swimming in the lake after work my sewing time is suddenly gone. There is also not much progress on handquilting the last blocks of the Summer Sampler. Sitting on the couch covered with a WIP quilt while handstiching in this weather-what was I thinking?

  2. I have heard of brides doing that and I love the idea. Just wish I would of thought of that. What sweet memories when I was little my grandparents had a cabin on the water and I used to love to crab. Looking forward to seeing your baby quilts.

  3. I hear you on the lack of sewing time! I thought I would have more time this summer, but with them staying up 1 to 2 hours later and having one home that doesn't nap, I don't seem to get anything done. But, we are having a last hanging out and playing!
I love the pink and brown fabrics you have picked out!
