Criss-Crossed Quilt

1-IMG_4817

Criss-Crossed is the name of my latest finish.  It was made with an assortment of pink, plum, and golden fabrics.  Many prints are Denyse Schmidt of course!  Others are Lori Holt Daisy Cottage, some Thomas Knauer, Joel Dewberry, and even fabric designed by fellow DCMQG member Jessie Aller for In the Beginning.  All of the fabrics including the backing and two shades of gray are from my stash!!!  How often can a quilter say that?  The binding was purchased online and luckily it coordinates beautifully.

The back is an Anna Maria Horner roses print from her Innocent Crush collection and a gray, yellow, ivory Midwest Modern print by Amy Butler.  Pieced backs are definitely my favorite!

This is the first quilt I quilted on the new long arm.  It was an experience.  I had some issues with the edges of the quilt and a few times I had to unpick a lot of quilting.  But overall I was pretty pleased with how the final quilt turned out despite all the extra handling during quilting.  A final trim and the binding hid any imperfections.

Normally I don’t wash any quilts before gifting, but this time I ran the quilt through the washer and dryer just to make sure everything held together, which it did!

2BB (Two Bee Blocks)

I sewed curves!!!  That’s the beauty of bees, trying something new.  Maybe there’s a block you’ve been wanting to make—the x & + block for example, but you just don’t have the time to make a entire quilt of the block.  I’ve made it twice this year already, without the commitment of making an entire quilt top and actually quilting it.  I love picking the fabric for a block, sewing it up, and mailing it off.  All in one day!

55-

Sewing these curves was easier than I expected.  In fact, I’d say it was easy as pizza pie (which is what my daughter nicknamed this block).  This block finished at 24” square.

Don’t you just love the crossword puzzle fabric?  The recipient requested fabric appropriate for a young boy.  I had so much fun picking fabrics that are outside my usual girly tastes.

And this is my blocks for Make It Modern.  I used some of my all-time most favorite fabrics including Farmdale, Washi, and Flea Market Fancy.  What a great scrap-busting take on the snowball block!

Are you in any bees?  Two bees I’m in are on hiatus after this summer, but after a little break I’ll be on the lookout for another one to join.  Any suggestions?

The dreaded stomach bug has struck our house.  At first it was just the kids, which gave me way too much time to surf the internet while they watched movies (God bless Disney!) and took it easy.  I found myself back at Quilttaffy looking for some Kona solid aqua and I, of course, found plenty more that I really needed.  Waiting for it to come in the mail is no problem because now I am sick and can barely muster the energy to get off the couch to move let alone sew anything.

Before I got sick I started fooling around with these Alexander Henry Farmdale prints I had to have.  My mom has 4 laying hens and my sister, who lives in Maine, has around 40 chickens.  Anytime I see a cute chicken print I can't resist.  The plan was to make potholders and a coordinating tablerunner for each household.   First I started by cutting 3 inch strips, then I played with them for a while trying to figure out the best way to display the directional prints, and so I decided on log cabin blocks.  I experimented even though my Kona aqua and ash hadn't arrived yet, and I plan to make that block the front of a pillow for my sister's couch.
